I really like this Netbook because it is so portable but more so because of the white keyboard which makes it easy to see in dim light situations! 160 GB hard drive and 1 GB RAM, SD card reader, WiFi and up to 8 hours battery life, what more could you ask for? I’ve had mine for many months and it has performed flawlessly! I loaded it up with photos, music, videos, software and it handles everything just fine! I removed Microsoft Office because I never use it but I installed the free Open Office which works faster, better! I’ve had many types of both weak and high powered computers over the past 15 years but this little laptop is my favorite! The Atom processor is a little workhorse that continues to perform in a big way! I love it! So will you. |

This netbook and its battery life are just as advertised if you are just surfing the net. Adding an external disk drive halves that. You need to let the battery charge up first, then completely discharge down to nothing then recharge it to get the full 9 hours out of it. The netbook is light enough to use – the keyboard takes a bit to get used to. Man the screen is small! Hitting the shift key doesn’t always work LOL. Runs better with 2 GB memory installed. I got it with Windows XP installed to save money so I could buy the extra memory and external drive. I take this to doctor’s offices while I’m waiting and love how light and portable it is. The only negative things I can say for it is that the SPEAKERS suck and are chintzy. I could barely hear any music playing. I had to connect external battery powered speakers for portability to get a good sound. Also, a negative thing is that the 3 USB ports get used up quickly by a wireless mouse and an optical drive that is external that takes up 2 ports but that is easily solved by connecting a 4 port external USB 2.0 hub to it that is portable. I use this in my bedroom most of the time for chatting, checking email and doing online banking and then for traveling or waiting in doctor’s offices. It works great with a wireless broadband USB modem for those purposes. I have a dog at home and the netbook attracts dog hairs like crazy to it for some oddball reason. The webcam takes pretty good pics – even in low light but is a cheezy looking pic. I was pleased with the overall performance and for 0 is a nice purchase. |

For several years I went from Laptop to Laptop but had similar issues. They really weren’t small enough or portable enough for my taste (and the ones that were had a much larger price tag than what I wanted). The battery life wasn’t quite up to par and I wanted to be able to use it for extended periods of time without plugging it in. Then I got this Acer Netbook and it was a lifesaver. This unit is just the right size. It’s not so big that it becomes bulky or difficult to keep on your lap but it’s not so small that you can’t see anything or utilize the keyboard. I also noticed that despite the advertised 6.5 hour battery life, I’ve been getting upwards of 8 hours out of it. I’m not a big fan of touch pads (nothing wrong with the one that’s on this unit, I just don’t like touch pads in general) so I got the Wireless Mouse M305 and now all is well. My only real complaint is that I wish I could expand the amount of RAM to 4 GB, as that would insure a very long life of usability. Obviously, netbooks aren’t made to be powerhouse computers and I use this for my writing, web content updating, and surfing. I have a USB DVD drive, and I have watched movies on it without an issue (this drains the battery a bit faster though) and any advanced computer functions that I need like video editing, I would use my desktop for anyway with the large screen. I received my Acer a couple weeks ago now. No complaints except the expected ones – the keyboard is tight so you end up doing more “hunt-and-peck” typing and I’m not a fan of the touch-pad mouse, so I use a small travel optical mouse when I can. Oh, and the screen has a little glare. That’s all I can gripe about. It’s so light and tiny, I can take it anywhere. The three USB ports make it easy to use many add-ons like the optical drive I bought (pretty much to import CDs). Enjoy. |
