Phantom Brave: We Meet Again

I’ve played several tactical (or strategy) RPG’s in the past: Final Fantasy Tactics, FFT Advance, FFT A2: Grimoire of the Rift, an Onimusha strategy game (briefly), and two different Tactics Ogre games. All of those games I just listed are grid-based, but Phantom Brave: We Meet Again (Wii) goes against convention in that and several other ways. First of all, moving your characters around on a battlefield isn’t done in an exact way like in grid-based strategy games; you can move your characters anywhere within a projected circle, and you can often move them several times in the same turn. You can even hop on top of other characters (including enemies), items on the field, etc. Under slippery terrain conditions your characters could go sliding across the field – and off of ledges – if you aren’t especially careful. Fortunately in most you cases you can press the cancel button and try placing your character any number of times, and placement is KEY since attacks are performed within a three dimensional area whose effectiveness is determined by width as well as height. Secondly, characters aren’t simply placed where you want (with some limitations) before the start of a battle; all of the “warriors” at your disposal are “phantoms,” and – as such – have to be “confined” to objects on the battlefield. It’s this particular quirk that REALLY sets Phantom Brave apart. Let’s say that there’s a rock and a weed nearby; confining a phantom to the rock would replace it with the selected character (ready for battle) and change their stats according to the benefits and drawbacks of said object. One benefit of confining a phantom to a rock (and stat-changes vary from rock to rock) would usually be a decent increase in total defense, and a drawback would usually be a notable decrease in speed. If you, instead, confine that SAME character to the nearby weed, that character would normally see an increase in the intelligence and resistance stats, while suffering a decrease in attack; so you have to choose your phantoms AND the objects you confine them to with care. And here’s where the game gets a little crazy: you can pick up – and then throw – pretty much anything and anybody. Not like the look of that particular enemy? Well, you can just pick them up (under most circumstances) and throw them off the side of the field map. Like the weapon that one enemy’s holding? Well, assuming you have a phantom with a decent “steal” stat, you might be able to walk right up to that enemy and snatch the weapon from them. Admittedly, I get my weapon’s taken from me more often than I steal them from enemies, and sometimes the thief simply tosses my cherished item out of bounds so that no one can use it. That’s the sort of game this is; it’s often difficult to predict exactly what an enemy will do or even what strategy will be most effective. I’ve defeated higher level enemies with much lower level phantoms thanks to a quick grab and a toss. However, you can’t always be certain where thrown items (and enemies) will land – especially on fields with a slippery surface. There’s plenty more to tell about the gameplay of Phantom Brave: different phantom classes and abilities, leveling up weapons and objects, combining characters and items, generating random dungeons… But instead of writing a game manual, I’m going to describe what it’s like to play the game with the Wii’s unique controls. I (briefly) attempted to play the game with just the Wii-mote, but it was somewhat difficult to use the directional pad to select points and targets on the map. The Wii-mote/Nunchuk scheme works much better for me, and I have little trouble commanding my troops with the precise analog stick. I believe that the classic controller can also be used to play the game, but I haven’t tried using it. There’s no use of the pointer and motion controls, but I think that was to be expected since this release of Phantom Brave is essentially a Playstation 2 port with some added content. Overall, the game is fairly easy to control if you look for on-screen icons that indicate which buttons should be pressed and just spend a little time messing around, and if I remember correctly, the initial stages of the game serve as a sort of tutorial to help you learn the basic ins-and-outs of gameplay (an opportune time for the aforementioned messing around). In conclusion, I’ll say that Phantom Brave: We Meet Again is one of the most (if not THE most) unique, creative, endearingly quirky, and FUN tactical/strategy RPG’s I’ve ever played. It’s sure to provide me with oh-so-many hours of continued gameplay, and I can certainly see myself going back for more and more. |

This is my favourite Wii game ever! It is so easy and fun! Pros: - Beautiful horses Cons: - To reach the 4 star rating in the game, you have to keep all your horses in perfect matinance, which is a bit challenging and comsumes time. I have found a system to achieve the 4 star rating. I put all my horses in the paddock, upgrade the guesthouse, buy mountains, and then take my best horse out of the paddock and care for it and race it in the competitions. Tips: - Always read books! It helps a lot, everything is faster and easier! |

This game is the best Wii game I have played yet. The graphics are very good (for a Wii console). I play with the Wii Zapper. It’s a little tricky at first, but you quickly get the hang of it. Thats it. It’s an all around awesome game. I would recommend this game to ANYONE. Enjoy |

Well, after beating up a lot of matches and goals on FIFA10 I finally get PES2010 for Wii. I was surprised when I saw the price because it has a discount, I guess because World Cup season was on they give it away the game to make a hard competition against the official video game for the world cup. I have my doubts about it because I was almost convinced that this game will be like the FIFA game where you just push two buttons shake the remote and goal, wrong, this awesome game have a lot of functions and options to play, you can play with the remote on horizontal position, you cant in FIFA where you have to point vertical, and tactics and competitions on PES2010 are more like the title of the game offers, PRO. What makes me feel frustrated is that Konami cant use the real names of many clubs and players from the leagues around the world, because FIFA has that in his absolute power and gives it only to EA. If you want you can edit the teams and the names to make them more accurate to the real ones and what I always like about a soccer videogame is the option to create your own team, In my case I created my favourite team and put it to play in the Premier League… so I am happy about this, I even once made a bad move of money and the game just get finnished because I break the rules… lol. Buy it while is cheap, you will enjoy it and now I will wait to the release of PES2011. |

I got curious about this game when it was first released because of the 3D element. Then the price came down rapidly and I decided to try it out without renting it first. The game has proven to be a good deal; it’s basically exactly what it claims to be. |

Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon
Dawn of the Dragon is third and last game in the Legend of Spyro series and is the hardest. The guardians, Spyro, Cinder, Sparx, and a new character called Hunter appear in this game. The storyline is not quite as good as the previous two but is still very interesting. Both Cinder and Spyro are playable. Cinder uses shadow, poison, fear, and wind elements, while Spyro uses fire, ice, earth, and electric elements. Unlike before, they use a purple beam of energy, instead of the blast Spyro used in the previous installments. There are more fighting moves than before and a much greater variety of enemies. There are more puzzles to figure out, and elite enemies appear in each stage. This is the only game in the series where two player mode is available. Each of the players gets to choose Spyro or Cinder to play and advance through the storyline with. The two player mode is difficult to master at first, but it is the only way to use two of the dragons’ elemental powers at once. Artwork of the game and its characters can be viewed, and stages can be played at any time after you defeat them(this was not possible before). Bosses are harder than before, but you can usually heal yourself. The dragons can fly(anytime), climb, and wall run in the stages, but can no longer charge. Colors are much brighter than before, and Cinder and Spyro look older. This game focuses on fighting with attacks and elemental powers. Fans of the old Spyro series may not like this game. Overall, an excellent game and finish to the series. Note: movie on the on the first installment of the series should come out in theaters on April 10th of 2010 unless it is delayed. |

The creator’s of D.A.H. Have always been pretty good about adding new features to each of the new games. Path of Furon had some nice abilities on the 360 for stopping time. I’m not sure what other abilities if any that he get’s. I haven’t really got that far into the game. You still get to use the trusty spaceship, but it’s just not as fun. It can be disguised as a blimp though to hide from enemies. Just remember this is based on only about 10% of game completion. I’m sure with more progress and more abilities to unlock that I will only continue to enjoy playing this game. |

The Wii control is the fun part of playing this game. Siting or standing can make difference on your swinging and pitching. It is not too difficult to master the Wii control to throw a good ball, but it is a little challenge to catch the timing to hit a home run. I checked reviews of this game in XBox and PS3; somehow, Wii version is the lowest!? Well, I can’t see much difference on the other 2 platform, not sure why Wii version has the lowest rate. It is a fun game, not super realistic on the image, but good enough to me. If you want to play season and build up a team, this is not the game. If you are looking for some short baseball game after work, and don’t want to be bothered for tons of statics and strategies, this is the right game for you. The player list is accurate to me, well…. to my knowledge about MLB…. certainly, it is good enough. have fun! |
